Educational TutoringDonations From The Heart offers an after school educational tutoring program to students that are considered at-risk and need literacy improvement. This program is geared towards the low income, transient, truant and those reentering the educational system. Our goal is to improve each student’s learning ability, understanding, knowledge, grades and test scores. Students need hands-on and inquiry based activities that are tied to real world experiences. Consequently, after-school learning must provide the kind of skills students need for the 21st century and at the same time motivate the desire to learn. For this reason, we are committed to deliver authentic, individualized, high quality learning opportunities with instructional times for students in a safe environment. This program is vital to the students, their parents and families, and the community as a whole.
Another key component of the after-school program is the addition of a researched based character development program. The program promotes social-emotional and character development. Some of the most important aspects of the program include helping children develop skills for a positive self concept, learning how to manage oneself responsibly, getting along with others, being honest, and overall self improvement. The character program provides opportunities for greater involvement of parents, community, and other stakeholders who care about student success. Rental/Mortgage Assistance:Our rental and mortgage assistance program is offered to those that are past due on their payments. This program requires the applicant to meet certain standards in accordance to HUD guidelines but are not limited to additional resources being made available based on individual/family circumstances. A maximum of 20% is allowed to be disbursed not including legal and late fees to help bring applicant current on their payments. These funds are disbursed directly to the institutions within 72 hours of approval.

Elder Care AssistanceIn the Holy Bible, we are commanded to treat the elderly with honor and respect. I Timothy 5:1. That includes assisting the elderly as if we are caring for our own mothers and fathers and seeing that their needs are being met. Donations From The Heart provides assistance to seniors that require monetary aide for eldercare devices such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, and air mattresses. We also provide assistance to our seniors through referral sources with home health aide assistance and prescription medication assistance.

Child Care AssistanceMany parents struggle with the cost associated with day care or after school care for their young. Our program for child assistance is designed to help offset these costs by providing additional resources for parents who are transitioning back into workplace and are torn with the decision to stay home due to the costs and risks associated with unsafe environments and non-credentialed daycare providers. Our Child assistance program can last for 6 months per family based on eligibility.

Transportation AssistanceDonations From The Heart offers transportation assistance to those who lack the transportation to get to doctor’s visits and are unable to drive themselves. We also provide assistance to those transitioning back to work that have come out of half-way houses and temporary housing whose budgets cannot support public transportation costs. Smart Trip Cards and discounted cab service is underway via negotiations with various agencies and transportation companies. These services are temporary and serve only as a means to get our applicants off the ground. Budget counseling is also offered. Our goal for each applicant is to utilize their resources wisely and to help ensure their needs are being met.

Food AssistanceDonations From The Heart food program understands that “Generous Hands are Blessed Hands because we give Bread to the Poor.” Proverbs 22:9 There are thousands of people in America that are starving from lack of food. The cost of living increases constantly and something as simple as having a hot healthy meal for some is a major feat. Our food assistance program provides healthy food assistance for those that cannot afford to buy groceries and feed themselves or their loved ones. Our Food program is structured to assist those that have certain medical conditions and need to eat certain foods based on dietary restrictions and health requirements. We currently do not have a food pantry as each applicant’s needs vary.

Utility AssistanceMany people struggle to meet their rent or mortgage obligations and find it difficult to maintain their utilities. This is due to lack of employment, low income, and non energy efficient appliances. Donations From The Hearts Utility Assistance program offer intervention for those that have had their utilities disconnected or are are past due and facing termination of services. We also look to find ways we can assist the applicant with energy saving tips to help reduce future costs. This may come in the way of counseling, best practices, and the engagement of outside resource partners.

Clothing AssistanceMany individuals need assistance with clothing for themselves and others they support and care for to include children and elderly. DFTH recognizes the need to have adequate clothing. Being able to afford clothing for those entering back into the work force as well as clothes for children that are growing during their school years can be difficult to provide. DFTH works with many local vendors to supply new and slightly used clothing to support those in need.

Veterans Complete Program (VCP)Donations From The Heart offers a “whole life” approach in support of our U.S. Veterans. The Veterans Complete Program (VCP) was developed to help restore the lives of U.S. Veterans providing them with independence and self-sufficiency within our local communities. The program targets the overall needs of veterans making sure that obtaining the basic necessities of everyday life, such as medical assistance and counseling are not burdensome during their time of transition. The program provides qualified veterans with the opportunity to take advantage of all 8 DFTH outreach programs including spiritual healing services provided under the 3 DFTH Christian ministry services.
